Water lilies, marginals and bog plants chosen and planted in the right pots and the right spots for color and clear water.
Plants do more than decorate a pond. Their leaves shade the water, their roots take up nutrients that would feed algae and their flowers feed pollinators. A pond with the right plants is easier to keep clear and a lot more beautiful.
We choose plants for sun and depth, plant them in the right containers and set them at the right level on shelves or in the water. We mix hardy lilies, marginal plants, floating plants and, where it suits the design, bog plants and a few tropical accents.
Water lilies sit in deeper water, marginal plants stand on shallow shelves and bog plants live at the damp edge. We match each plant to its depth so it thrives.
Surface leaves shade the water and compete with algae. Covering around half the surface is a good aim in sunny ponds, and we plan for it.
Native and well-behaved plants are easier to manage. We avoid aggressive spreaders and prefer species that suit our climate and look good for months.
Tropical water lilies and floating plants add dramatic color in summer. They are treated as annuals or brought inside for winter.
