A full pond cleanout that removes built-up muck, debris and algae and resets the water so the pond looks and smells fresh again.
Over time every pond collects a layer of leaves, fish waste and fine silt on the bottom. That layer feeds algae, uses up oxygen and gives off a swampy smell. A thorough cleanout resets the pond and gives fish, plants and filters a fresh start.
We protect your fish and plants first, then drain, remove muck, wash rock and clean the skimmer, filter and pump. We leave a little of the helpful bacteria in place so the pond recovers quickly, then refill and treat the water for safe return of the fish.
Fish go into clean, shaded holding tanks with aeration while we work. Plants are kept moist and cool. We choose a day with comfortable weather, since heat and cold both stress livestock.
We vacuum or scoop out the muck, wash surface stone and clear leaves from shelves and corners. Taking the nutrients out of the pond does far more than fighting the algae that grows on them.
We open and clean every part of the circulation system, checking seals and impellers and noting parts that are close to wearing out.
A freshly cleaned pond can be briefly cloudy while filters and bacteria rebalance. Light feeding for a few days and no other changes helps it settle.

Many well-balanced ponds need a full cleanout only every few years. Ponds under trees or with lots of fish may need it more often.
We keep some established media and bacteria in place and add new bacteria afterward so the pond recovers quickly.
Sometimes. A pond vacuum can remove much of the muck while the pond stays full, though a full drain is best for heavy build-up.
Most residential ponds take a few hours to a day, depending on size and condition.
The biological balance needs a short time to recover. It usually clears in days.
