A larger pond holds steadier water. If you are on the fence about size, build bigger than you first imagined.

Depth keeps fish happy

Two feet is a minimum for goldfish and three feet or more suits koi. Depth buffers summer heat and winter cold.

Shade fights algae

Covering about half the surface with lily leaves shades the water and uses up the nutrients algae wants.
