UV Clarifiers and Water Treatment

Ultraviolet clarifiers, bacteria and water conditioners that turn green water clear when used the right way.

A UV clarifier is a sealed tube with an ultraviolet lamp. Water passes by the lamp and free-floating algae cells are damaged so they clump and get caught by the filter. It is a reliable way to clear green water.

We size and install UV clarifiers, plumb them correctly and explain what they can and cannot do. They do not remove string algae or the nutrients that feed it. We pair them with proper filtration, plants and regular cleaning for the best result.

How UV works

Green water is made of tiny floating algae. As water passes the lamp, those cells are damaged, clump and get trapped. Within days the water turns clear.

Right size, right flow

UV works best when the flow is slow enough for water to spend time by the lamp. We match the unit to the pond volume and the flow.

Lamp care

Lamps lose strength after a season of use. Replacing the lamp each year and cleaning the quartz sleeve keeps it effective.

Plan the electrical

UV units need a protected outlet. We plan the power supply so the unit is easy to reach and safe to service.

Questions

UV Clarifiers FAQ

Does UV harm fish?

No. The lamp is sealed in the clarifier and treats only the water passing through it.

How long does it take to clear a pond?

Often a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the algae and the flow.

How often should I change the lamp?

Once a year is typical. Lamps lose strength even when they still glow.

Will UV kill string algae?

No. String algae is attached to surfaces and does not pass through the unit.

Where does UV get its power?

From a ground fault protected outlet near the pond equipment.
