A chemical-free swimming pond where a planted regeneration zone and quiet circulation keep the water clean enough to swim in.
A natural swimming pond is a pool you share with plants and sunshine. Instead of chlorine, a planted regeneration zone and gentle circulation keep the water clear. The result looks like a pond, feels soft to swim in and does not need harsh chemicals.
These projects are bigger and more technical than a garden pond. We plan a swimming area and a separate planted zone, set the depth and slopes with safety in mind, and design the circulation so the water passes through the plants. The work also has to follow local safety and building rules, and we help you find out which apply.
A swim zone and a plant zone work together. The plant zone holds gravel and aquatic plants that use up the nutrients that would otherwise feed algae. Sizing the two zones against each other is the heart of the design.
Steps, shelves and gentle slopes make entry easy, and depth is planned for comfort and safety. We discuss edges, access, signage and any fencing rules before we build.
Natural water has a living look, with a little color, a few insects and plants that change through the seasons. We explain what clear natural water looks like, so the pond meets your expectations.
Water temperature, plant growth and algae change through the year. A swimming pond looks different in July than in April, and we give you a simple seasonal guide.

No. Plants, circulation and good design do the cleaning. That is the whole idea.
Swimming ponds need a lot of room for the swim zone and a plant zone. We assess your space before suggesting a layout.
It is usually clear in the main season, with seasonal changes in plant growth and a little natural color at times.
Rules vary by property and jurisdiction, and large pools of water may have safety requirements. We help you ask the right questions early.
Less than a pool in chemicals, but it needs seasonal plant trimming and a check of the pump.
