Ponds shaped for frogs, dragonflies, birds and pollinators, with native plants, shallow edges and no fuss.
A wildlife pond is a small ecosystem you can sit next to. Frogs call from the edge, dragonflies hunt over the water and birds stop by to drink and bathe. It is a different goal from a show-piece koi pond, and it calls for a different design.
We shape gentle, uneven edges, include shallow beaches for birds and amphibians and plant natives that feed pollinators and give cover. The water is kept simple, with less equipment and more plants, so the pond looks and acts like a small piece of the Tennessee landscape.
Steep banks are hard for frogs and small mammals to climb. We build sloped beaches and shallow shelves so animals can drink and escape safely.
Native sedges, rushes, irises and flowering perennials give nectar, seeds and shelter. They also thrive in our climate and need less coddling than exotic ornamentals.
Large numbers of fish can eat tadpoles and insects. For a wildlife pond we often skip fish or keep them to a minimum so the pond can host more life.
A wildlife pond looks best when it is not too tidy. Leaving some fallen leaves, seed heads and logs gives animals places to live. We help you find the right balance.
